Where was your podcast recorded?

This is a live set I played for a morning dance at the incredibly picturesque setting that is The Yoga Forest in San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala. It is a yoga and permaculture retreat center where I played a few gigs this year. The vibe for these events is completely sober (minus the use of a high dose of local cacao) and they run for 3 hours. This particular set flowed incredibly well and the vibe was maybe my favorite I have experienced on any dance floor, anywhere in the world. So happy to share it here with you guys.

You spend a lot of time in the small village of San Marcos, Guatemala. How much of an influence has that area of the world had on your music?

This place has had a massive influence on my life. I have met people here who have inspired my creative flow in ways I never could have imagined. I have had experiences that have greatly shaped the way I see the world and the importance I give to my craft. This place truly has a special spot in my heart and a deep influence in not only my productions but in how I interact with the world around me.

What are the main influences behind your music?

Burning Man was definitely my first deep experience with dance music. From there I have had incredibly potent experiences all around the world which have sprinkled their influence into who I am today and the music I create. It is still an ever evolving process that continues to surprise me as it takes turns I never would have expected. For me, the creative process is one of moving out of the way as much as possible in order to allow something to come through in an effortless way. For this reason my time spent in silent meditation retreat over the past few years has had a massive role in my development not only as a producer but as a human being in general.

What is your usual workflow when writing a new track?

Well usual doesn’t really fit here. As my productions have evolved, my workflow has evolved with it. At this point I am moving more and more into a “live” type production technique where I work extensively on about 8 elements (kick&snare, hat, percussion, bass, 2 instruments, 2 vocal tracks). When I feel these elements are all working well with each other and stand up on their own, I use my launchpad and a midi fighter twister (which I love) to do a live arrangement by launching clips and using the knobs of my twister for effects and volume as the track is being arranged in real time. Once I have that rough arrangement it is really just a process of fine tuning some details and transitions, and perfecting the mix. Ultimately I would like to create a full live experience where the whole thing is just cuing elements and using effects live to truly produce a set on the fly.

Any releases coming up we should know about?

I have a release coming out in a week on the solstice (June 21) with SolSelectas, the label run by DJ Sabo out of Los Angeles. They have a stellar compilation being released with some pretty incredible tracks included. My track will be featured alongside some of my favorite artists at the moment so I am feeling incredibly blessed for this one to come out.

I am also releasing an EP on Desert Trax, the label owned by Desert Dwellers. This will be a 6 track EP with remixes from Doppel (AUS) and Treavor Moontribe (1/2 of Desert Dwellers). It has been a real pleasure working with them on this release and quite an honor to get support from some of my favorite artists in the world. This one will be coming out within a month or two.

I have also been talking with Akumandra out of Mexico City and looks like I will be releasing something with them in the coming months. This label has exposed me to some artists that I am really excited about at the moment so its quite an honor to get support from them as well.

This particular podcast features Simplicity, track for the SolSelectas VA and tracks from the EP on Desert Trax.
